Default Advice: best place to buy cooper tyres in jhb and sidewall damage

    Hi

I have a puncture in the sidewall of my cooper discoverer maxx 265/75/16.
The puncture is pin hole sized and where the tread is on the side.
The tyre has been plugged with a mushroom plug.
Does this tyre need to be replaced?

My spare tyre has almost 100% thread but has slight side wall damage as well (no punctures).
Will post a pic when I figure out how to....

Red circle in pic shows small cut on tread and yellow x is where the puncture is on the other tyre.

    In short...
Is the plugged tyre safe as a daily tyre?
Is the spare safe as a daily tyre?

And any ideas on a place to replace the tyre if needed around jhb?

I've used snot plugged tyres, which are not as good as the mushroom plugs for many thousands of km over all types of terrain and loaded without any issues.... The sidewall is an issue, unless it is only on the upper side of the sidewall, before the "flexing section" of the tyre.

Yea so the puncture is on the shoulder I believe. Just as the tread starts....
Cannot figure out how to post pics off my phone. Will post a pic when I'm by my laptop tomorrow.

Planning to call cooper as ask them where I should get it checked out... Hoping the previous owner signed them up for the life time warranty.

Upload photos with a usb cable or if you have Windows 10 there is an upload app (so I belief, as I still stick to W7) or email them to yourself.

Went past a Dunlop this morning.

    Will be replacing both tyres.

Not worth jeopardizing safety so save a few bucks.

It is a much debated question. I believe that a spare should be the best tyre on vehicle. People often say to me "patch it and I'll use it as a spare" which is all good and well, until a questionable repair lasts only 200m, then you are up the creek without a spare. We all have varying opinions on this, and that was my 2c.

How did you manage to get a puncture? I've been over the worst roads and do have sidewall damage but no punctures (touch wood) yet..

Truthfully I believe foul play may have occurred here.
    Haven't been off-roading in weeks.

Possible situation could be below but I have no proof to back it up...
Recently had my alignment done at kwikfit killarney.
The techie there made massive adjustments and didn't loosen the clamp on the steering rack boots and ended up destroying them.
I made a scene there with him and eventually management agreed to replace the boots.
My vehicle was left there for the day on thursday while they replaced the boots and then noticed a flat tyre on my vehicle yesterday afternoon after work.
I'm thinking the techie who I shat out and which his management probably took action against could have punctured it...
Again....there is no way for me to prove this...

I have only driven on tarred roads for the past 4 weeks so I literally have no idea how a pin hole puncture can appear in the shoulder of a tyre from driving on tar....foul play is specualtion

I bought a set of Coopers last week. I found HiQ to be the cheapest in general but not all HiQs are the same price.

    Thanks for the advice guys.

Best quote on cooper st maxx so far is from autowiel in Gezina.
    R3785 per tyre

Have received quotes from Supa Quick in greenstone which aren't far off...pretty much equal themselves out after I account for fuel and time to pta.
