Default Sani Pass in a Nissan X-Trail

    Hi all

As the title suggests, will I be able to drive the Sani pass in a 2016 Nissan X-Trail 4wd? Will be in that area in November and thought I would give it a go.

I have no specific knowledge of the xTrail, but in my old landy, it would run out of steam about half way up. At that point I needed to switch into low range to continue. This was entirely the result of the lack of air density and massive loss of engine power at the high altitude of Sani. If you have a normally aspirated petrol xTrail, then you may also find it struggling as you get higher. I am not sure how low your first gear is? If you have a turbo diesel, then you will romp up with no problems.

Also I was driving a landrover SerIIIS and always had a full vehicle loaded with hiking gear or bikes or both when I went up the pass in the past. There were always a few tourists keen to get a lift up whenever I went and the landy could always handle a few more bods in the wagon. If you are lightly loaded then you will be fine.

I have not been in years, but used to go up a few times a year when I was living in Dbn. The pass could change from very docile, to quite tricky with a bit of rain, mist or snow. As with all things, go a slow as possible and as fast as necessary. When in doubt, turn about.

    Hi Sean66
Do you have the 1.6 diesel, manual, or the 2.5 petrol CVT?
