Default When last did you change a wheel next to the road?

Wife called me this afternoon. "Wiel is pap. Ek staan langs die pad". Luckily it was only 2km from my office. Managed to sort it out in a few minutes. That was after searching for the jack for some time... found it (clearly visible) under the front driver seat.

Is your spare in order? The spare on the wife's vehicle? Tools/jack in order?

    .

    Me... finishing up. Mogoditshane/Moleloplole road.

I can recall some punctures in places with very awkward access for jack and removing tyre. When travelling on rough roads would have been helpless without spade and even Hi-lift jack and base plate.

I have quite a bit of faith in that green slime that you put in the tyres to prevent punctures.

it's been a while since I've damaged one enough that I needed to change it on a road.

snot plugs and a pump work wonders....

Last time round about 2009 pn the trailer. Other times, snot plugs.

My wife is a true poppie, comes from a house with only girls and no brothers. So one saterday I removed yhe valves from the all the 3 sisters tyres and said change them! They took out cell phones to phone a male friend! Taught them how to do it on the spot, if they are stuck in a tight place they will change it long before help arives and be gone.

No snotplug will fix this Dueler H/L 683. ( It came from Japan with the Duelers. ) It is a very hard compound. Looks like it just cracked open.

Tomorrow it is 4 new tyres. I'm not waiting for the other 3 to do the same.

must see if I can find a pic.

I had a puncture on the R355 that was a good inch and a half slash in the tread . instant deflation.

Loaded to the roof, the jack and spanner on a JK live under the boot floor.....

Stuff that. shoved in about a dozen snotties, enough to keep it up to 1,5 bar and did 40km to the camp on it, and changed it there after we unpacked.

It was on the spare for about a year afterwards... Gunhog Christened it 'Bob Marley' .... had to use it after a lost tyre at Atlantis and did a good thousand km on it before I changed all the tyres...

All my cars have 2 aerosols for roadside punctures. Used them only twice in maybe 30 years.

Some years ago did a snotplug fix on the sidewall of a 165/13 tyre. Very careful ! Once you punch the tool through, it easily rips open some more. 2 Plugs and it was good for another year.

In December I did a few 100km on rough gravel and the Highway tyres of the platcar was not happy and I had 3 flats in 3 days.

imagine high 40 degree karoo days and me as sick as a dog unpacking everything and changing tyres.

    I was not impressed.

3 weeks ago, helped my tenants change a tire. 2 young ladies, they were clueless. Not strong enough to loosen the wheel nuts, didn't know how to use the jack, had used the hook extension to turn the screw without putting the wheel spanner on the back. One of them luckily has a very strong grip ... (Eeeaaaassy now Pierre ...)

Plugged the Audi 2 months ago, checked the girl-child's spare on Saturday. She knows how to change a tire ... and I have changed her wheel spanner to make sure she has the leverage to loosen the wheels.

Edit - phooey man, my phone didn't show the whole title. Last time, January 2016next to the road was between Tzaneen and Polokwane when stopped to help an Oom and Tannie who had a flat in their plaas bakkie, December 2015. Before that December 2015 in the Croc Bridge parking lot, and 2 days later on the side of the Voortrekker Road south of Pretoriuskop. Wasn't a good 2 weeks for punctures.

Got a call from my wife a few weeks ago, she was outside our gate with a flat tire. I couldn't understand how she managed to get a flat right in front of our gate... When I got outside I understood, she struck the pavement while looking for the gate remote and keys. And this just before a couple of friends would arrive for dinner. Worst is she stopped right there in the road, which is a rather busy road, and she already had the car halfway jacked up. I finished the job for her while she took care of the dinner. But later she got a speech for not first stopping before searching for the keys, and secondly not stopping out of the road to do the wheel change. In her defence, her father told her to never drive on a flat tire because it could damage the rim or tyre. But really another 3m would not damage the rim anymore than the pavement she struck... Long story short, talk to your wife and children regarding these things, this 'obvious' facts could save you a tire and maybe a life!

Last time on a normal road was two years ago. Swambo had a screw in the tyre of her brand new car. She told when I came home from work, as she needed a new spare tyre. She had already changed the wheel herself, all on her own!

Last time I had a puncture was last August in Ihaha. I was able to repair it without having to take of the wheel.

2 years ago on the infamous R355. Driving my little platkar, Honda 160i, Old dohc shape, using Garmin's shortest route! Changed to Marie biscuit, 2 clicks further also ripped to pieces, then slowest drive ever for 100km on flat biscuit to Calvinia! Must add that we had lots of time to really enjoy the scenery !!
