    Default Kgaligadi

    Hi Guys,

We do the RSA - NAM trip a few times a year mostly coming back via Mata-Mata to Twee Rivieren. We're leaving again tomorrow for NAM to return via Kgaligadi again, but can anyone recommend alternative routes or places to camp ie Nossob, etc.

We will be spending about 4 days in the park, probably on our way back either via KAA (Bots) or Mata-Mata (NAM) and exit at Twee Rivieren...

I'm not sure if the Nossob to Bitterpan to Mata-Mata 4x4 trail is worth the money or if it is better just to drive round on the normal roads..?

If there are any viewpoints, or any other suggestions please share.

    Thanks in advance!

From Namibian side if travelling down from Stampriet, Gochas, Eindpaal and on to the place of Twee Rivier on the C15, the next right turn, a few killos from Mata Mata you turn right on the D503/D502/D504 (different maps are named differently) which comes out on the C11.
We call this the dunes road and will take about 2-3 hours and is a beautiful drive. There are a number of farm gates to open and close on this route, so do the right thing and close the gates after you.
There is not plenty of accommodation in this area. Red Dunes Campsite between Gochas and Stampriet. There is also camping at Gochas and Stampriet, as well as KoŽs at intersection of C11and C17.
Go out at Rietfontein near Aroab.
There is also camping in the Bokspits/Askham area.
    Enjoy.

Thanks Haboob, we have friends near Stampriet and have driven the C15 from Stampriet, Gochas, Twee rivier on to Mata-Mata a few times. Beautifull gravel road.

Might consider doing a D503 loop before entering Mata-Mata. Thanks for the advice.

This loop will take you lower down onto the C11, about 80 kms from Aroab, then you would have to take the C11 back to KoŽs, then the C17 back to the C15, unless you did it in reverse and end up back at the C15 about 78 kms from Mata Mata.
I suggested this route, then you would miss the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park.
It is a nice different scenic drive if you always go via Mata Mata.
    Enjoy...

    Different strokes for different folks.
We found Bitterpan rather harsh, with very little game. And we would not revisit on a future trip. Although such a pleasure meeting and interacting with other guests there - which is 'mandatory' due to the layout and communal kitchen, good idea.

Our preferences however were Urikaruus and Kalahari Tent Camp. Both private and overlooking active waterholes.
Gharab is terrific too, must be the more so when the lions are are active there.

The rain and flowing rivers was very special...
