Default Route from Pretoria to Lake Malawi

    Hi Guys,

We are planning a trip to Lake Malawi in July 2017. The idea is to go through Botswana to Francistown, then through Zim to Cahora Bassa and then to Lake Malawi. Back through Tete along the Mos border to Masvingo and return through Beitbridge.

Any recommendations from people who did the trip through Zim recently about the route, places to avoid, camp sites in Zim, and places to buy food and meat in Zim & Malawi?

    Regards,

    Hans.

Hans, Regret, there is no road that runs the length of Cahora Bassa from Zim on the Moz side. To get to Cahora Bassa one must take the Songo turn off on the road to Tete from Nyamapanda in Zim. The Tete road will ultimately lead you Malawi and the lake. On your return trip from Tete through Moz, the Luenha, Catandica, Bandula road is badly potholed & until recently had to be traveled in military convoy. A cease fire has been agreed for the next 60 days only & the convoy suspended. Hope this helps a bit.
