    Default disco 3 diesel cooler

I have a D3 with a diesel cooler that has popped
this is a similar situation to the oil coolers that pop on the Td5 but in this case the diesel cooler.
the diesel cooler is very similar to the cooler used on the D2 Td5 19P facelift
it is the wafer type cooler and not the tube.

the fuel tank is full of water and the whole fuel system and cooling system contaminated.
water in diesel and diesel in water.
car obviously running rough, battles to start and smoking.
be aware that this is potentially a problem
the consequences can be numerous :
    coolant hoses
    injectors
    fuel pumps

Is it easy to access and replace?
    Does it break the bank?

    easy enough to access
    sit under RHS engine mounting
can access from underneath once belly plate is stripped out.
do not cut off those quick couples to bypass the cooler - doing so is going to cost you a new set of pipes
it is also not adviseable to drive long distances without a cooler - diesel will overheat the fuel tank and pump.

    so - Murphy is a little */++@
    that cooler is fine
after long and exhausting search we realised there is another cooler where water and diesel can mix!
it is attached to the oil filter housing
so, strip out the filter housing, test and see if it is leaking

You will only get that as a complete unit from LR, the part number I have 1354253, I actually forgot about that cooler, that,s for the injector leak off fuel returning to the HP pump tank return line.

    I, the Devil's Advocate!

Do we need those in our climate at all?
I would be tempted to by-pass those coolers / heaters.

i don't believe it is wise
in SA we rely on them to cool the diesel
failing to cool the diesel could cause failure of several components including the fuel pumps
    so we identified the culprit.
it is the little cooler right next to the oil filter.
put the old one on approx 4 bar air pressure on the fuel side and held it under water.
    bubbling so it is stuffed.

    agents want R6000 + vat
managed to source a second hand one for approx 1/2 price and hoping it behaves.

this has been an expensive exercise!

    +1

I second discoeast on LRdirect. Their service is superb and VERY quick delivery. Use them normally for some of the fancier FFRR stuff.
