Default Where to go camping/driving, Tankwa Cedarber?

    Hi

I am looking for some advice please.
Me and my fiancee would like to do a two day trip/driving and camping. We just wanna squeeze a 2 day ( 12& 13 october) trip in before we start working after our 2 week honeymoon!!

I need some suggestions and contacts and maybe a map of back routes.
My plan is to to depart from Paarl to the Tankwa reserve area, sleep over and drive the following day to Cedarberg.

I was thinking of sleeping in the game reserve in tankwa( if they have a camp site ans ablution blocks) and then we will sleep over again at Jamaka in the cedarberg.

Does anyone have other suggestions contact or ideas. Is there some people that do a like wise trip over those two days and need some company. Don't worry, by then we should be quiet at nights!

O, and surely want to fit in a 4x4 trail.

    Thanks

The Tankwa National Park does not have any camping spots with ablution. Only Wilderness camping spots (no facilities).
You can try Isle of Sky - Tankwa close by.

Jamaka is a good choice in the Cedarberg

I hear De Mond (ph. 027 - 3412330) in the Tanqua is very nice, but I've not been there myself and don't know where it is in relation to the route you want to travel. I understand it's about 30 km from the Tanqua Karoo National Park though.

The Tankwa Park is a bit too isolated and big to make it a quick visit. You can stay over at Varsfontein which is a furnished house. There are other places you can stay but camping is difficult as there is little water and the ground is hard and rocky.

Getting from the Tankwa to the Cedarberg will involve a long round trip through either Niewoudtville, Ceres or Calvinia at this time of the year as the Beidouw Valley is impassable due to the Doring River being in flood.

There is no cell phone reception in Tankwa and the park is actually much bigger than maps show as a lot of farms have been incorporated. The manager is Conrad Strauss and you can get his contact details from the SANParks website.

I stayed at Varsfontein before the park was opened to the public and this house was being renovated then.

We have camped 6 times in the park over the last 3 years, the last spot we camped at in August was the Langkloof and it was the best by far(although all the campspots are great).
It is only accessible by 4x4 and is an informal camping spot.
But they had just opened a formal camping spot when we were there it is called Perdekloof. So maybe try phoning them or emailing them about it(email address on SAN parks website).

Thanks for the update regarding the camping GTO. Nothing was available during my visit in 2005.

Thanks for the info guys! At last, yesterday we arrived back from our honeymoon. Ten days in Zanzibar can be long.
I have booked one night(Sunday night) in Luiperdskloof and Monday night in Jamaka. I cannot wait to try out my rooftop tent.
Somebody suggested that I should try out Luiperdskloof.

Maybe I should leave Tankwa for a full week end on its own!

    I will report back.

    Cheers
