    Hah, found the problem.

    Correct website address is:

    www.doorndraailodge.co.za

Looks really impressive. How are the campsites spaced? Are they far enough apart?

As mentioned there are 10 big sites but they are grouped together in 2's. The two sites are however private as they have big pole fence between them. Each site also has it's own boma. The 5 group of sites are roughly spaced 30 - 40 m apart. Worth a visit

Was there this weekend and can also recommend it.

If you take two sites you will have a nice space between sites although as said their is a "fence" between the sites next to each other.

Nice mountain bike trails, swimming pool and jungle gym for the kids

I browsed through the posts but did not see any camping spots being mentioned around the Vaal triangle. Are there any recommendations for that area for a weekend breakaway?

There are plenty but, they vary from the packed commercial type of caravan park to the quieter fishing spots.

It all depends on what you would like to do.

Just google "camping Parys" and you'll get a bunch of choices.

Just read the whole thread and not much to add but been to a few of these.. Not reliant on power but as feedback
    1. Ezemvelo been going for years aware of the section closed which is a pity but still a wonderful place for a quick Friday getaway.
    2. Waterberg Wilderness best to have 4x4 to drive around. Campsite the best Ive had close to home and will go back. Purely due to its privacy and location , night sounds (although that Nightjar drove me nuts at 2am)
    3. Nylsvley is a gem on a quiet weekend. And u can walk ,mountain bike etc
    4. Kazi Mingi a great spot for a group that just want to hang out and if u have kids. Small and neat. Big dirt road drive in
    5. Pilanberg agree Bakgatka as you on fence and in far section away from restaurant.
    6. Marakele a no brainer and a must.
    7. Matamba probably the top rated but book it with mates and own tbe site and tree platform etc. 6 month waiting list......
    8. Doorndraai thanks for that wasnt on my radar
    9. Dont exclude Northern Berg Rugged Glen and Mahai ....open drive on N3 and for an extra 30 minutes you get the Berg proper.
    10. Doing Tshikwalo at Dinokeng this weekend after reading the Getaway and to test some mods on trailer

Apologies ...Im hearing good things about this and as a fly fisherman we owned a farm not too far away. Its in the distance sweet spot and easy access to Dullstroom for a pot pie and a Guiness... http://www.elandskloof.co.za/camping.html

Lastly Glen Reenen in Golden Gate also accessible for a weekend and a WOW location

For a real bush experience and self drive 4x4 routes you have to try Grootwater.
We stayed there for a few nights during school holidays last year and there was no one else on the farm.
Although we were on our way back from an overlanding trip with our caravans we stayed in the chalets.

Half the fun is getting there, especially while towing an offroad caravan.

There are also camping sites, not sure about ablutions though.

    Give it a try!

In fact it was top camping sites with in about a hour from Johannesburg. That's when I started the link - I would like to suggest on each post a drive time is added from either JHB or Pretoria. I also like a safety ratings as there been a number of unpleasant incidents and few get reported.

Highly recommend Lebra's Rest in Dinokeng. Small (12 stands) relaxed atmosphere with good fishing in the dam.
Good ablutions and a games room with pool table, table tennis and a heated pool under roof.
103Km from Johannesburg and 46 Km from Pretoria.
Was there last weekend and will definitely be going again.

    Hi all.
I need to camp close to Centurion for a different reason than recreation. My wife is having an operation at Unitas Hospital and I do not want to drive back and to there from Alberton every day, especially rush hour.
I picked up Rietvlei campsite off the Web. Anyone know it? Any other recommendations?
    Cheers

Groenkloof is a no-go area. I would rather try places like Nkwe. Further away, but close to Hans Strijdom that is going to Unitas.
