Sondela. Drive back roads via Cullinan if suitable to you.

Didn't see Klipdraai (in Meyerton) on the list yet (http://www.adventurebuddy.co.za/dams...ravan-Park/187). Been there a couple of times now. Nice and close for that last-minute-trippie.

Mbizi west of Bela-Bela is quite Lekker - there is a bush camp and a normal camp, warm water pools for the small people, they encourage bicycles - and if you head towards Bronkhorst &then Cullinan, past Rust de Winter, PIenaarsrivier, then either N1 or R101 to Bela-Bela & R516 west - roads out are fine on a Friday afternoon.

The ablutions are adequate, nothing special. The camp is on a slight hill and has enough trees to make it pleasant but...........it is right next to a koppie that houses dassies and black faced thieving monkeys so be aware.
Birding was disappointing as was the game driving nothing spectacular but a great place just to relax and ave fun with the kids in the pool.

    I dunno Henk!
We just got back from Ezemvelo and saw huge amounts of game for a change:- Kudu, Springbok, Impala, Blue & Black Wildebees, Blesbok, Red Hartebees, Eland, Zebra as well as 3 blue cranes flying over.

Point of interest is that the Oppenheimers have closed the southern, rocky/hilly half of the reserve and it's now a no go area.
Reason? Dunno! Something to do with the lease being up. That was the most interesting section to drive around.
For a midweek break, it's still great & not too many monkeys.
The road to get there has been graded and is not as bad as it used to be.
The second turn off route is about 13k's longer than the usual one of which 9 k's are corrugated, but not that bad with the tyres (including the caravan's) set at 1.8 bar.

    CapetoCario - I reiterated a previous post...
And it has been stated that we should keep it to less than 300km which Botsolano is.

Would Sondela be worthwhile for a day trip from Gauteng, provided one can book for the selfdrive route?

Klein Paradys outside Brits. Try the luxury campsites with private ablutions - the best camping spot for kids. Water world, fishing, canoeing, tennis, etc

No. I'd then rather then do Dinokeng. The Sondela property is not all that large.

Marakele, Bontle booked 21/3 to 25/3 with my daughter, rustic camping in tents with lots of read meat and a few cold ones.
Looking at the other reports, I felt its time to go and see for myself.
Time for some R&R for both me and my matric daughter who has been having some serious emotional challenges lately

If we need quiet and peace....Drie Berge outside Brits.
What I like about this place, is that the swimming pools are away (+-500-600m)from the camp site. Right next to the Krok River.
Never had a dirty/wet bathroom, as there are always cleaners at the ablutions, and never went without hot water.

Tried Somabula based on the recommendations here and must say that I am impressed.

No electricity but the private ablutions have lighting and gas hot water. The roads around the reserve aren't perfect gravel roads (a bit washed away in some places) so just keep that in mind.

It was good fun driving around the reserve (4x4 routes were fun and not terribly tricky). The overall peace and quiet was well enjoyed although we did have the local scouts practising their songs but that can be forgiven.

Sounds great but one thing do they do not have swimming pool as with out that it's a no go. It's to hot not to have this luxury.

No swimming pool that I am aware of. But perhaps others will correct me as I am not sure.
