Thank you very much Eric, just received my parcel.
Much appreciated. You guys customer service is exceptional.
And to top it all, they didn't even charge me for the work done!
Can you tell me what was wrong with the charger?

Okay, now to getting the charger back on duty:
My daughters car has been standing for a while with a very flat battery. Dash lights don't even show.
Thought I'd put the charger on and see what it does. At first nothing.
Then tried the mode button to see if I can get it to something else, still nothing.
Kept it in for second and skipped to 13.6V supply, but then goes back to orange led on mode and nothing else.

Then moved Benton over to my new LC90ah and voila, picks up the battery, all the buttons and the steps work perfectly.

Try jump starting the flat battery with proper cables. Nothing! 1st time this happens!
Left the Prado to idle while jumpers connected for about 10 minutes, try again, flat car starts. Okay, getting somewhere...
Left flat cart to idle for 20 min and put it off.
Connect Benton: Picks up battery and all steps and buttons work! Moved it to the 12v snowflake.
Will now leave it on the car and see what happens. Hopefully this battery can be saved.

Unfortunately I can't seem to find the user manual for the charger so I just mucking about actually.
Tried the internet but seem to get a broshure only. It does give lots of info though.
    >If battery is below 8v Benton won't start as safety..... should have read that part before connecting

Seems I should rather disconnect battery and try the 16V option?

Anybody have the BX2 manual electronically, or a link to the manual?

    Adam,

Here are some abbreviated instructions for operating the Mode button:

    ********************

    Benton BX-2 Mode-Button Operation

    With no battery connected:

Hold the Mode button in for 3 seconds. The charger should switch over to the 13.8v Power Supply mode.

    With battery connected:

Hold the Mode button in again, then rapidly depress it once - it should also go to 13.8v mode. Pressing it again (quickly) changes to the other modes.

If your battery is totally flat, the charger will not operate, then you need to select the 16v 'Boost' mode.

Here is a PDF file of something that we typed up some time ago, from the minute ant-sized fonts as used in the user manual

    Thank you Eric

I placed the battery on the 16v Boost last night and will leave it on the charger for the whole weekend to see if it can be saved.

The charger and all its functions seem to work perfectly and that makes me very happy.

Attached is a document I downloaded from another site which has similar info you have in your document and some more.
I'm sure you'd be able to use it as well.
Not a manual, but comprehensive datasheet. (Was 6Mb, this is the smallest I can get it)

Quick question....want to charge my deep cycle in my car a bit to get it back to 100%
Do i need to disconnect it or just make sure the car is switched off?
There is already some of those connectors connected on the battery so assume the previous owner also had a Benton

Just switch the car off and connect. Please just check that the old connector contacts are not corroded through in any way, or you will have problems.

    Thanks.
Saw now the connectors is CTek so different.

One more question, was told that the National Luna intelligent Solenoid will never fully charge your battery...

The reading on the fully charged battery is 12.67 and the one charged by the Solenoid is 12.56...
So not much of a difference?

Are the CTek people talking crap?
Will charge the battery and see what the voltage is after words.

I've never worked on an NL system but as far as I understand it is just a solenoid connecting the battery, with nothing else. I would go with the C-Tek guys here, you want as little added wiring between the BX-2 (or C-Tek) and battery as possible. Connect the charger to the one battery only, never two in parallel, it fuzzes the charger intelligence otherwise.

I know this is an old thread, but one Q. Do you get a Benton that can operate as a Dc to Dc and as a Ac to Dc?

Not yet I'm afraid. Hopefully they should be working on designing one.

    Hi Eric,

I have an AGM battery (95Ah) in my car as a second battery, and a deep cycle (102Ah) that I am looking for a charger for. Which Benton would be best suited, and what is the price at the moment? Im in Pretoria...

    Thanks!

    Hi The Wall

Have you tried charging the alarm batteries with the BX-2?

Pajeroman, a BX-1 Pro for EACH battery would be fine, or even shared between the two batteries but still charging them individually, but if you do this you might consider instead a BX-2 for a faster charge. PM your email address to me for more details.
