So my Dash cam decided to stop working, bought it in 2014/11, not even 2 years. Only the red light stays on when plugged in, cannot turn it on at all. Is it still under warrantee? Any advice?

    Hi,

I have one of the original dashcams bought a couple of years back. I'm running Windows 10. When I plug the dashcam into the PC it is not recognised as a drive and datakam app doesn't see the device. Tried updating USB drivers but windows say sorry you've got the latest. The unit powers up via the USB port so the cable is OK. Any ideas?

Keith, I also suspect the cable. Have just pulled out an old unit lying here for years without use, internal battery flat as hell but if you set the menu to 'MSC', it works fine with Win 10.

I suspect you might be using a charging cable and not a data cable.

No difference between data\charging type cables if your aim is getting data through it.

Disagree, a charging cable may be missing D+ and D-

So I thought too, but there is a difference. Charger cable only charges, charger/data cable does both. Found that out the hard was myself!

I am looking for a new plastic clip (held by the two little screws). My dash cam fell off the windscreen and this piece broke.
    Are there parts available?

Does the SD Card get tired after some years?

I have a lot of broken files and missing video when I transfer to the PC. A format did not improve the situation.

When I buy a new card, what do I look out for? (Specs) We do not have many options over here. You buy what is available.

I do think that the older a card gets, the more prone it will become to errors/failure. I have experienced the same.

However, the battery on my dashcam has packed up and does not charge anymore. The result is that when external power is loss by switching ignition off or pulling the plug, it just dies. And, I think, when this happen it does not have time to do a proper shutdown.

The mini USB connector that plugs into my unit also became very loose fitting. Due to the above problem it would then also just loose power and switch off without shutting down properly. I have used small nose pliers to clamp the mini USB connector to ensure a tighter fit. And, touch wood, that seems to be holding for now.

But then the card has also started to give me warnings that it might be on its way out where it will give me an error regarding the card. I can't recall the exact error. I then format the card and sometimes I have to do it a couple of times.

The error you describe also seemed to get worse the longer I use the card (with loop recording) without doing a format. It is almost like a full HD on your PC that slows down the PC as it has less "working space".

    Thanks Danie.

My Cam is set to shutdown 10sec after the power falls away. The battery still outlives that. The missing and damaged files are random in the middle of a continuous recording. (The USB Connector is still tight.)

I think I will go and get a new SD Card.

    Will report back.

My dashcam stopped recording. When switching on, the timer doesnt run and after a 12 hour drive, there is no footage on the disc. I have reset to original settings a few times and it still doesnt work. When switching on now it shows a quick 5 second smaller blue screen notice, Input FTT card

What can the problem be? The memory card buggered and thus not recording anymore? Do I have to buy a new memory card now?
