warranty approved R12.5k for the engine. R500 for the tow in and R1000 towards my monthly installment due to car being out of action.

Now need another R4k or so to cover the labour but even that seems to be in the pipeline so all in all it may be a happy ending after all.

I'm glad it's worked out - this post started out as a tragedy!

Goeie nuus.

Ek kry my Audi parte daar.

    So begin dit...

An oil test may reveal some clues but i will NEVER EVER EVER buy a car again without witnessing a compression test.

Goldwagen only has limited stuff, but better than nothing.

The method of bringing parts in from Germany has always caught my attention, - glad we seem to have a contact for this now.

Marius, just an idea. How about printing out the workshop manual for them and giving it to them as a good gesture... unless they have it already?

I k@rk myself everytime anyone lays hands on my Treg.

    Good luck.

I have elsawin so if they need help I'll offer. If they work over weekends I'll be there to help wield spanners.

Unfortunately the VW approved way is to drop the gearbox and tranny out the bottom. I have spoken to the workshop and from the 3 previous ones they did, they prefer taking it out the front.

Whenever I can I'll drop by for progress updates, questions and pictures.

I don't think it's too bad a job but it is a big job. It's an engine swap not a rebuild.

If I had the energy to do my third engine swap I would have but my workshop is a bit limited for an engine swap of that size. If I had a properly kitted workshop, I would have DIY'd because then I can go through every detail without being rushed.

Unfortunately that option is not available to me so I will try and pop in as often as possible to see what's going on but a competent workshop that has done it before 3 times already should be able to do the swap in 2 days if the work flatout and don't encounter any issues. I assembled ancillaries and dropped in my pajero 3.0 V6 engine in 2 evenings without any special skills or past experience.

My mazda transplant I spent a day taking the old one out, a day swapping parts to the new engine and half a day dropping it back in.

I think you'd go mad if you tried to do an engine swop of that magnitute in a garage that small.

Have you considered having the turbo serviced on the new motor before having them put it back in?
