Marius, this sounds fantastic. Very happy for you!

    - you did mention the 'new' unit has a warrantee, awesome.
    - your comment that you wish to keep your old engine possibly for spares, makes me think you will keep the Treg after this, which is fantastic news!

Once you have the unit, would you mind sharing which breaker has been able to help you, as this woudl indicate he might have other Treg spare which could benefit this community?

I am keeping the treg - I'm an optimist and realise that I bought a dud engine and a replacement should give me many happy miles (although I must be honest - I did browse autotrader for pajeros yesterday )

I will divulge where I got the touareg engine from, as soon as I paid for the engine. At the price I am paying I am too scared someone will jump the gun on me. I can say however that it is a 2006 R5 auto that is being stripped for parts.

Unfortunately I won't be able to share a detailed build thread as I found a workshop that has done a R5 engine swap before and will charge me R6k for the work which I have accepted. The price includes oil, coolant and filters so it may be less as I will supply my own oil and filters.

In less than a day you got more done and organized than the VW dealers did last week...

By the sound of things, your TReg will be running by this weekend...

    Not quite. I need to....

Get a report from VW on the cylinder that's dead
Hand that in with the engine pro forma to SA Warranties
Get engine to Ian's auto clinic
Flatbed car to Ian's auto clinic

Wait for them to do the work and check in there regularly to follow up, take photos, ask questions and try not to be the pain that I know I can be when someone else is left to do the work

I'm most definitely interested in this contact because I'm keen on fixing up some minor cosmetics on my TReg.
Usually these little trim pieces are already damaged, missing or they don't sell it loose...

    Pardon my ignorance,but what is;
    1. 2SO
    2. What viscosity is 505.01.
Dealers have been servicing my Treg using Castrol 5w40 Synthetic? Would that be ok?

    1. Two stroke oil
    2. VW oil specification. Ie, they approved the oil to their 505.01 specification.

All vw petrol engines these days need 504.00 and the diesel engines need 507.00 with the exception of the R5 and v10 touareg that need 505.01 (fixed interval) and 506.01 (extended interval) - the exception to the exception os the v10 with DPF needs 507.00.

It depends on what castrol synthetic they used. Check above paragraph and compare the required spec to whats on the back of the bottle they poured in.

Sorry to hear about the misfortune. But this is the risk of buying a secondhand vehicle with no warranty / motor plan. Surely you are aware of this? That is the reason why Auto trader has so many luxury barges going for next to nothing, they are all amazing cars but everyone knows things gets very expensive very quickly if you do pick up a problem. Personally I believe if you want to buy a high mileage secondhand car check if you can find the engine at the Jap import engine dealers where a secondhand turbo diesel can be had for anything from R10k to R25k .

In your case where you are buying an engine from an accident damaged car just make sure it was not a role over. When the car roles over and ends on its roof it might happen that the engine was still running with the car upside down, starving the big ends from oil.

Dankie Marius.
Sterkte
