There is no way you can make a plan with that one sleeve and piston?

Seems overkill to condemn a motor for 1 sleeve...

Company that developed the plasma coating technology... see link. Seems to be quite common now with many brands using it.

    https://www.sulzer.com/en/-/media/Do..._Solutions.pdf

As we are seeing here, it's great technology when it works but a nightmare when it fails.

I wonder if remtec somehow re-coats the plasma tech (doubt it), or if they replace the actual sub-aasembly.

Marius, please take this comment in the light-hearted way it is meant, but...don't you wish you kept the Pajero now?

I've been following this thread with interest Marius. Would it not be possible to reach some sort of agreement with them where they pay you out & then you fix it yourself? You clearly have the skills so it isn't going to cost you R60k to fix?

Engine sub assembly is R60k. I reckon ill need another R1k for oils bolts gaskets etc.

If left to VW to do the exercise will cross over the far side of R100k.

Without going into detail its clear that all im going to get out is the warranty and im not even sure they will payout a portion towards a new engine if its bought personally and not through a rmi workshop with a labour quote included.

Im in the process of trying to get the money together but the car will probably stand into the new year until i can get tje funds for an engine.

Happened to me with the LWB, I've spent something like R33 000 in mechanical repairs on it in the last 5 months. Fortunately we don't have car debt, so its a bit easier to absorb..

Still not nice, really feel for you

I posted an ad on gumtree yesterday looking for an engine and I received a phone call this morning from a breaker that will sell me an engine for R11500.00

It is from an R5 auto with 67'000km on the odo that's been written off.

On top of that he will buy back my failed engine to strip for spares.

On top off that I can get tips from his mechanic on how he took the engine out.

I'm not counting my chickens yet but it's good news.

That sounds good Marius - maybe you can get the warranty guys to come to the party as well. You paid for the "insurance" after all.

more good news. warranty is willing to pay for new engine even I fit it. The warranty just won't cover the engine in future which is OK as I have a 6 month warranty from the engine supplier.

Its a crappy thing to have happend; but if you can get the 67000km engine for R11.5k you'll have a very decent vehicle that should be in a much better mechanical state than the configuration you bought it in!

Only 67K kms, now this is a good turn of things...
I'm very happy for you and good luck mate...

Back to the problem; has it now finally been confirmed that the #5 cylinder has seized-up beyond repair?

Either way the cylinder repair may cost more than the new engine...

I might actually get money out of it as he is willing to buy back my old engine for spares, but depending on his offer I may keep it as a spare AC pump, tandem pump, turbo and alternator is worth it's weight in gold.

All I know at this stage is that compression on cylinder 5 is about half of what it should be.

I'm not paying to have the engine opened just to find out.

This exercise with the new engine will only cost me tools, own labour, engine oil and some rags.

not to deviate the thread but I must say that I made a point of keeping calm through the whole thing and not stressing about it, and believing that He will provide.

    He has!
