Does it leak where the pipe goes into the elbow? Surely the pipe does not just wedge into the elbow but is secured somehow? If it simply slides in there, I'd go the Pratley Epoxy route and mould the stuff all around it. Possibly add another connection to the pipe (thinking from LPG gas fitting with a hose-clamp) and extend the pipe, thereby you do not mess up the original pipe should the epxy prove to be not permanent.

It leaks where the brass nut meets the plastic elbow.

If i had no option i would epoxy the whole thing but that makes it difficult to reverse the fix.

I like oem fixes so im trying that first.

I'm the other way around, DIY then OEM... but you farming guys have all the moola for OEM, Julius is right.

How does the pipe connect to the elbow part? Screw in?

If only I was a rich farmer.....

    Far from it.

The part costs next to nothing. It's the pain of getting it to me quickly, so I can get back home on Sunday to start work Monday, that's the issue.

That looks very similar to a pneumatic push on fitting, I have a suspicion that a decent hydraulics shop may be worth a call, there is a seal that allows the elbow to swivel on the threaded bit. It looks like a standard 1/8th fitting.

Did you get the part? Assume you are on the road heading home?

I tried various places. Douglas is a mining and farming community and they do t keep that small size.

The part that was sent from cape town was mistakenly sent by the secretary via normal overnight instead of express overnight so the friday shipment will only be here monday.

I couldnt find a means to get the bloem parts to me.

So, when the part arrives tomorrow, i will fit it and test the suspension. If that was the issue i'll head home via bloem to get the other part as a backup as the one from cape town is second hand.

If there is another issue with the car tuffstuff will have to be called upon to get me and the car home.

Leak fixed. Ecu not happy about car level.

New error via vcds. Vehicle extremely un-level.

Will play a bit more later, else insurance call tomorrow.

    I couldn't give up.

I played around with vcds and eventually found a function that activates the air suspension with ignition on and engine off.

I heard a hiss and traced it to under the fuse box in the engine bay in the rain tray.

A bliksemse f**** rot het die front left air pypie vir aandete gehad.

I'll get a push lock fitting tomorrow and join the pipe again.

So, it wasn't the car's fault after all. It was mother nature and it could have been any car's vacuum pipe, fuel pipe or wiring.

I know in Germany people have big issues with rodents called 'Maders'. You get ultrasonic devices which run off the vehicles battery (very low consumption), which deters them.

    Consider it revenge for this:

Amazing how a car can cause so much stress and so much relief at the same time.

Ok, so the beetle wasn't going to let me off that easy.

Big judder from the engine. Feels electrical. Intermittent.

Pull over and scan via vcds. Speed sensor G28 implausible signal. I know that's the one by the power steering pump. I jack up the car via the (now working) air suspension and climb underneath to check the plug.

I fiddle with the plug and the engine dies.

Limp 10kms to steynsburg. Find a workshop, gather three male and three female crimping lugs. Cut off the connector at both ends and join the wires.

    All good now. Heading on.

What next? At least it's all small stuff to be expected from an ageing car.

I agree with the small things causing big stress.....after my water pump oil leak, everything was fine untill this week she started dropping oil again. I initially had that sinking feeling, but after investigation found that the sump insulation was still full of oil from the original leak (the tell tale pipe is tucked into the insulation) After this weekends long drive and off road driving, the oil had clearly shifted in the insulation and was now dripping from the sump plug cut out. It is amazing how a small ammount of oil looks so big when its on concrete.
To put my mind at ease I taped a small plasic bag onto the tell tale pipe and left it in a visible position. There is no oil in the bag therefore the water pump is fine. I should remove the insulation and clean it out but it seems like a tricky job with the crossmember in the way
