    Murphy strikes again.

This time my boss borrowed the car and he phones me after a while. The car is bounce and a red error message on the MFD - Stop. Running gear fault.

My heart sank. Probably the pump.

Tell him to stay put and catch a lift with my colleague to him. We have to drive the long way round as our causeway is flooded by the rain.

Get there, start up the car and hear a hiss from the pump. Relief. I knew it's just a pipe that popped off. I didn't even scan with VCDS.

Some 8mm head screws and some torx screw to get the cover off under the car on the driver side. 3 13mm bolts and the pump drops down.

It ended up being the same pipe i pushed back about a year ago. This time i put a drop or two of superglue and push it back again. All sorted. Even took the time to rinse off all the accumulated dirt that settled on the cover. The pump was clean though despite the many gravel miles i do every month.

Who would have thought you could fix a running gear fault on a touareg for R28.95?

yesterday I had to turn around here and take the long way round to town.

It doesn't look very deep but it was about 700mm deep and flowing very fast. I wasn't taking any chances.

This is what it usually looks like from the other side

I have crossed it before with the Drifter but it was slightly lower and flowing slower as well

    Beat this!

    2.3 ton car
2 passengers plus dog and plenty baggage
700km from East London to Douglas
7 hours travel time inclusive of stops
110km/h moving avg speed (this takes some doing - check your gps next trip and you will be surprised how hard it is too keep your avg above 100. My back road route helped a lot!)
    8.9l/100km.

Hard work paid off in the end. Super happy!

Brilliant, that really is the R5s strength. Won't get near that with the V6 TDI.

Looks familiar, do you run 500ml per tank? On a side note, I see Havoline have a 5w40 505.01 oil available.I recently did an oil change and used it instead of the Helix/Liqui Moly. Much cheaper @ R330/5l

    Front suspension on bumpstops.

The elbow at the top of the compressor that I fixed twice before is leaking badly.

My bush repair failed so Im hoping the dealer has stock to overnight to me, else my holiday is going to get stretched.

    Eish.

I first want to try the original part route before I try something that is not easily undone.

The part in question. It attaches on top of the compressor.

To gain access you need to remove the plastic cover under the right side door sill that runs the length of the car. Then remove the three 13mm bolts that attach the pump to the body.

The pump will then drop down and you can twist it with everything attached to gain access to the top of the pump.

A 10mm spanner can loosen the fitting.

    I believe the part number is 7L0 616 725A.
