That is insane. I'm not so sure that combo will be all that trouble free.

No, see they also selling the Treg box on Gumtree.

These engine are not hard to come by and parts are cheap.
One can easily get a Lexus V8 engine with ECU for under R10K.

I friend of mine did a Lexus conversion on a BMW 530d and charged customer around R25k for the whole job.

Sad thing though, is that the vehicle will not have much resale value anymore being non standard/original.

But as I said, good/affordable alternative....

I just don't see how I would live with that V8 economy.

I wonder what they did with the rev counter.

REAR WHEEL DRIVE? Toyota engine? On a Touareg?

That is a sin - the guy who did that needs to be shot!

LOL that is harsh. From a technical perspective, provided that actually reasonably works (which I doubt), it is a big achievement.

Who is keen for a test drive?

I'm actually very curious to see and observe this conversion.

This vehicle is located in the East-Rand, to pick up a "dice" will not be difficult....

If it is rear wheel drive only, we can even try burnouts...

At least there's some sort of option out there without having to get a recon engine. Marius was lucky to find a good engine at a good price, and the rest of us wouldn't be able to change out the engine ourselves.

    Got some new rubber today.

    Apollo Hawkz R/Ts

They don't moan on tar so happy about that. Time will tell regarding longevity and off road traction.

My TPMS sensors are old and the batteries dead so I wanted to remove them while I'm at it and replace with normal valves. I have disabled the computer a long time ago.

One day when finances look better I'll getr new ones and reinstate the TPMS.

If you plan on doing this, soak them a few days before in some penetrating oil. Mine was a proverbial to get out and 3 had to be drilled out. (I had to drill them, the tyre place didn't want to touch them ) All went well and the tyres are fitted.

    Looks nice and mean...

If you don't mind me asking, what was the price per tyre?

Would be interesting to get some feedback on your choice as well.

I have done some homework and found the following two options to be best value for money:
    1. Pirelli Scorpion ATR (R2500 per tyre)
    2. Achilles Desert Hawk (R1600 per tyre)

Why didn't you take the opportunity to go a wee bit bigger?

My dad went a bit bigger on his V10 and it throws the onboard computer and odometer etc way out. I don't like that.

Besides, the R5 is the baby engine so I don't want to rob performance and/or sacrifice it's good economy.

The other option with (almost) the same circumference is 255/60/17 but those are as scarce as hen's teeth!

My worry with going bigger is also economy, i'd just like the tyres to provide a bit of lift.

I took this video to help someone else but I thought I'll post it here as reference as well.

This is the correct operation of The R5 VGT Turbo mechanism.

It's that low drag and smaller frontal area that gives the good consumption.

I cannot get that consumption with either my old 2.5 or the Biturbo. However, drop my speed to between 80 --100 and I get 7.5-8.5l/100km with the newer van. That is the sacrifice for the space. Less space lower consumption. What is the tare?
