Cool, join forces with Tim Legge or something and open a kick backside, high-end indi VW workshop! Think demand must be substantial.

Your challenge will be to develop a training program to ensure the guys you get to help you out also maintain the same level of skill /excellence you do. Otherwise you might end up becoming victims of your own success!

But +1 for another confirmed guy who will be bringing his pajero to you to be serviced!

If I do come I will do one car at a time and I will always be there to do the work myself or oversee a competent worker. Not some low wage monkey.

The idea is to have a good life, not to get smoking rich.

Had some fun with JayJ and Bradley at Gonubie Pine forest today.

Touareg did surprisingly well except for the tyres that kept losing pressure (1.3 bar) when turning over humps, from the bead.

Truth be told though, the touareg was nowhere near the land rover or the hilux on the dunes. They simply got where I dared not go and couldn't go. I suspect partly due to the tyres, my scaredness of momentum on the air suspension and the monster torque that spun all 4 wheels even in low range 4th gear.

Decided to disable my EGR by removing (and plugging)the vacuum line, first thing I noticed was a rock steady idle first thing on a cold start, second thing - consumption seems to have increased, my normal tank to tank average works out to 10.2 l/100, this last tank 11.3.

    I encountered the same.

I suspect it is due to the fact that the engine now takes longer to warm up as the exhaust gasses are not passing heat into the coolant via the egr cooler.

On long distances (300-600km) my EGR delete makes no difference to economy. But it takes about 150km before the average drops below 9l/100km.

Clean engine bay always looks good....

I'm glad this R5 engine got a second chance with a new home.

I was at VW breakers on Sat and it was very-very sad to see how these Tregs are just recklessly stripped apart...

Parts (e.g door trims with wood inserts) just laying around on gravel and the interiors completely messed up by sun and weather.

For example, the V8 from which I stripped the tow-bar last year had perfectly sound electric leather seats which is now completely ruined, ripped apart and burnt by the sun...

It was very sad to see this.

One would expect that they will take these cars apart with caution and store the spares in some sort of warehouse.

By doing this they will make allot more money by selling all parts in good condition which they can't do now.

Gotta be happy with this consumption with the price of diesel these days.

Some pics of the old turbo - You can clearly see the damage where the broken ring made it's way past the exhaust kompressor and VGT vanes.
