I dont think I'll sell it. I told Shalene my next purchase is a new treg or a cayenne, or if mitsu brings out that v6 diesel.

Until then, I have to just keep this one going.

The Treg sounds like a tractor in that tin shed it is in, especially on some of the early start attempts. When it finally runs smooth, it must have been music to your ears.

Have you driven it at all? What remains to be done except the bodywork?

I still have to topup the oil - it's on the low side of the dipstick after the start.

I need to topup the coolant - antifreeze is in but I need to get the system going and add distilled water

After that, scan for errors, check for leaks, install the bash plate and then go for the bodywork.

Not yet. Getting some oil today to topup and water to topup antifreeze. Then it's getting it up to temp to check for leaks and problems.

Marius, did you perhaps come across the location of diff breathers when you did the work. I know there is one next to the air-filter box, presumably for the front diff. I'd like to understand where and what height the breathers for centre and rear are located? Any idea?

As far as I remember the gearbox and rear diff run along the top of the gearbox. I didn't touch them so not sure. The one by the airbox is the front diff breather.

I had the scare of my life today. Filled up oil and coolant. Started it and let it idle for a few minutes to get the temp up.

I then pushed the revs to 2500rpm and the oil pressure warning came on.

I thought logically about it, even while scared shitless, and checked the connector on the oil pressure sensor located on the alternator side of the engine, just above the oil pan line on cylinder one (front of engine).

Connection seemed loose so i clicked it in further. Tried the rev again and same story. I lost hope.

A thought jumped to me. I got the previous oil pressure sensor off the old engine (deep socket 24mm), quickly fitted it (thanks VW for easy access with a ratchet, extension and socket)' tried again and bob is still my uncle.

She is now out of hospital and awaiting plastic surgery to the forehead. Dad's gen1 is keeping it company in the meantime. Might avtually get to sort the last bits on the gen1 now as well.

The ear would have heard a noisy top end, grey matter cogs would have said oil pressure problem, and the optimist in you saw a solution.

But, ja nee, the heart also jumps to 180bpm in an instant.
