    Hi AvB,

Was Saterdag by City Deep se skrootwerf suid van Johannesburg.

Ek het dieselfde BAC engine kode gekry by 'n VW breaker.

Top is getoets Geen skade, geservice

505.01 is goed genoeg. Dits is 'n HC sinteties. 506.01 is bietjie beter want dis vol sinteties en kom gewoonlik 0w40

Definitief. 505.01 is tussen R60-R80/liter waar 506.01 gewoonlik oor die R120/liter is. Ek koop 505.01 by shell en 506.01 by liqui moly direk.

Daai pypie gaan nerens.

Take it easy for first 1000km and then do an oil & filter change. That's all I would recommend.

Excuse my ignorance and possibly poor translation skills, but I read it that AVB had his engine sleeved? I was under the impression that this was not possible?

A competent workshop can sleeve it

The remtec engine is a rebuild with a sleeve.

I suspected a dirty injector. I drove it hard and it disappeared for a while.

In hindsight our vision is now clear but up until I did the compression test (and later took the head off) I never suspected such a catastrophic failure of the bore/piston/rings.

Right, so I decided to keep the thermal insulation on the engine. I chose the best pieces from the two engines and used those. I suppose quicker warmup and keeping the car warm for longer can only be good for it.

Well made a turn at Bosch today, discovered that my wires in the harnass are damaged. Damage through schaving agianst the surrounding wire protection. Almost at every 2mm, the core is exposed for about 1mm, like its design to do that, almost on all the wires.

R6300 for the harness at Vw breakers, can one just buy heat shrink and put on all the wires, obviously one needs to cut one end to pull heat shrink over, but if soldered and sealed it should be fine.

If one wire is damaged can it be replaced by soldering in new wire??

Yes. should be fine. Make sure it is a properly soldered and heat shrinked join. The treg uses canbus and picks up extra resistance (bad joints or crimp lugs) that may throw errors or play up with driveability issues.

A wire is a wire. As long as the repair is good, it should be good as well.

I posted that in the other thread earlier. It is a very convincing argument but I'm still not convinced. I don't believe everything i read on the net.
