Romzotwa - Pre-emptively PM me your bank details for your reward.

Now it's a matter of organising some quick funds for the engine. I need another R15k - my overdraft application is at the bank.
Marius, this sounds like AWESOME news...

Have you now officially secured the engine?
Don't worry about the reward, lets get your TReg riding again...

    Good luck...

Guys, I have been approached by several forum members to act as an ambassador to start a drive to collect some donations for Mariusís plight/bad-luck which he is battling to absorb financially. Please note Marius never asked for this, but I have felt it necessary to contact him and ask for his approval, - which he has given me in the most humble way.

Marius deserves something; he has shared detailed information on this forum and his own site (http://4epikanini.webs.com/) about engine rebuilds, and has probably collectively saved readers of this information many thousands. Besides that we would like him back on the road with the Treg ASAP, as we cannot bear seeing his Treg standing there like this.

Now that Marius nearly has an engine and is short 15k, letís set that as a target.

Go to this thread if you wish to doante something:

@Korgat: Thank you for taking up this initiative; this is what makes us a true community...

    Can I propose the following:

We take the the old engine block and make a nice glass top coffee table out of it.

We can also sandblast nice things on it such as the logo of this forum which made this whole information sharing community possible.

When all of this is over, Marius can have a lucky draw to see who wins this nice VW Toureag R5 coffee table for his own man cave...

This will surely add allot more value to donations.

This thread now became allot more exciting...

Like that idea, Marius to decide, the old engine might be part of the new engine deal

new engine is not part of the new engine deal.

When all is said and done, I will probably sell some ancillaries to defray costs but the block is scrap so I think the coffee table idea is a good one.

Can I just say I am touched to the deepest part of my heart by you guys. This is by far the biggest heartfelt gesture I have ever experienced in my life. I have worked my fingers raw to get where I am in life (with a big dollop of grace) and now to receive (already 3) donations feels unreal and restores my faith in humanity which has deteriorated slowly after the past few years.

You guys are the fibre of a good society and the type of people that's needed should we need to save a few in case of a global disaster and need to repopulate.

Thank you thank you thank you to the bottom of my heart!

dealer does not want to go out and do a compression test.

Anybody that has a contact that will be willing to do a compression test for me?

It's a bit of a faff as you need to take the intake manifold off to get to the glowplugs, unless you have the proper equipment then the intake removal isn't necessary.

What can you tell from diagnostics. I know on my LR V8 you can tell a helluva lot about what's going on in each cylinder.

I can go and have a look at the engine for you, but only next week as I am out of town until Sunday.

What equipment & tools would I need for the compression test? Do I need a battery pack to turn the engine over?

Won't an oil analysis also tell you that compression is ok, i.e. abnormal amounts of diesel in the oil? Think it will kill many birds with one stone that way!

Overdraft approved so it's as long as the engine checks out we have a build on our hands.

The donations help a lot as it saves me interest and repayment fees.

Hopefully we can get some more pics in this thread by next week.

Has anybody got a means of fairly cheap transport for the engine?

EDIT : We have an account with timefreight and they will do it for R1000 so that's OK. Just need to wait for the all clear from Johan Nortier (organised by Vossie) on the engine.

    I'm getting excited now.

    Default Oil Testing

    Hi Marius and Dirk.
Just got the PM. Where is the motor or car andI will try and organise some one to get the oil sample and the you will have results within an hour or so.
The oil test will give you a full DNA on the motor provided it has not been tampered with. You will bearing wear bore wear piston wear ring wear water contamination and fuel contamination. Can the motor be started is it still in place if not you can't do a compression test. Beside the oil test will show if you have low compression ie bore washing and ring wear.
Please let me know if I can help.
