I think you are just hungry to see a nice engine rebuild with lots of pics. Those threads are my favourite as well.

PS : you can mic? What does that mean?

Yes Micrometer the most important tool when rebuilding an engine.
Just wonder how many guys know plastigauge and how to use it.
Engine rebuilding is all about specs and clearances.
It is not what you buy its what you build.

call zelda in potch, she and her husband do engine imports and she quoted me 8k for a 2l FI engine for my jetta.
she may have some contacts for a pranged r5 in europe where the engine is all ok.

Why not tear down that motor completely. Then make a proper assessment.

because I can't find a mechanic that I trust to do the machining and assembly.

If I could find a workshop that has dealt with these engine before then I would have them rebuild it.

Rebuilding it myself means buying extra tools which adds to the cost and makes a replacement engine a better option.

    Hi Marius,

Have a look here at the ad posted a couple of hours ago (Only 3 views):
    http://www.junkmail.co.za/motoring/v...uareg-23130814

I hope they have something for you...

Here is also an ad from VW Breakers in PTA; looks like an R5 (Only 22 views):
    http://www.junkmail.co.za/motoring/v...g-tdi-22293783

I've done business with VW Breakers before.
If you are keen dealing with them, I can go and have a look myself at the vehicle and even negotiate a better price on parts.

It might be worth while to fill-in following enquiry form:
    http://www.usedspareparts.co.za/inde...x&cPath=15_324

These guys have quite a big supply network sourcing the used spares.

    Good luck...

Can I ask someone to help me. I need a person to go there and do a compression test for me.

contact Shaun Stoltz @ VW Breakers, cnr Lavender & Lintveld, De Onderstepoort (012) 562-2029

Romzotwa - Pre-emptively PM me your bank details for your reward.

Now it's a matter of organising some quick funds for the engine. I need another R15k - my overdraft application is at the bank.

Marius, can I suggest you contract Tim Legge to do the test, that way you know it's 100%, PLUS he will be able to give you a very professional opinion. Worth it, even if it costs a few ZAR.

How about also doing an oil analysis via these guys?

    Thanks Kortgat

I phoned him but it's too far for him. I'm awaiting the VW dealer to phone me back.

Default Marius help thread. Get that Treg back on the road!

This thread now has some 12 120 odd views and 205 posts, which is pretty substantial for a Touareg related matter.

Guys, I have been approached by several forum members to act as an ambassador to start a drive to collect some donations for Mariusís plight/bad-luck which he is battling to absorb financially. Please note Marius never asked for this, but I have felt it necessary to contact him and ask for his approval, - which he has given me in the most humble way.

Marius deserves something; he has shared detailed information on this forum and his own site (http://4epikanini.webs.com/) about engine rebuilds, and has probably collectively saved readers of this information many thousands. Besides that we would like him back on the road with the Treg ASAP, as we cannot bear seeing his Treg standing there like this.

Now that Marius nearly has an engine and is short 15k, letís set that as a target.

Go to this thread if you wish to doante something:

If you want to do an oil analysis I will arrange it for you via Peter Street. I have the test kit and will send it where ever you need it.
