I am using the old work bakkie (mazda 2.5 TD) that keeps breaking but at least I can get around. But, no long trips or outings are possible until the treg is fixed.

I thought those 2.5 td engines were quite reliable?

Not a nice thing to have broken stuff during the holiday

    Ha, nice one sir.

Marius, maybe you should sell the Tuareg for parts?

    Or install a ford v6.

I 'm sure it'll be cheaper than the R60k motor.

i installed an import engine mid last year

    but this year I fixed

    - burst water pipe x2
    - rebuilt entire front suspension after wishbone bolts sheared
    - replace a failed upper wishbone (dud casting)
    - rear leaf spring bushes
    - new diff
    - rewired starter motor
    - rewired glowplug wiring
    - fixed window that kept going out of it's runner
    - rewired diesel pump cutoff solenoid
    - wheel bearings
    - rear brakes overhaul
    - interior fan distribution knob broke that I had to fix
    - rear diff leak
    - vacuum pipes replaced
    - power steering leak fixed

I'm getting a wee bit scared of it now.

The engine runs like clockwork but the rest of the car has done nearly 500k kms. Hard to tell as the previous farm manager (passed away) replaced the clock at some time and that clock is now a few hundred kms away from 300k kms.

The mazda is normal injection pump diesel.

It's not mine to sell though and I doubt the boss will sell in the current economy. I just keep fixing. At least I'm slowly running out of things to fix.

Ooh, I thought he wanted to buy your Touareg engine, no wonder he sounded very brave.

Yes. We run Warren Properties from here. Started here working in the office doing IT and marketing. Previous farm manager had a stroke and passed away shortly after. I applied to take over.

Now I do half day office work and half day fixing cars, tractors, electrics, plumbing etc.

We have a capable foreman and 6 workers that looks after about 200 cattle and take orders from regarding jobs on the farm.

I also get to live on the farm as part of the deal. Plus the use of the big workshop hanger for whatever work is needed.

Shalene also gets to work here on the farm managing a cleaning chemical manufacturing business (TC10) - not much work admin wise after I organised everything on spreadsheets and templates for her - so she gets to be a stay at home wife (planning on the "mom" part)

Truly is a blessed life I have - disregarding the treg and mazda issues which is a minor compared to my living and working environment.

Just to give you an idea of my backyard

Just got to reading this one, been meaning to keep up.

    sorry to see the damage.

Marius, you bought this car through a dealer quite recently, not so? does the CPA not give you some protection / cover here?

have you spoken to the seller?

You'd have a very good case for compensation here!!!

whats the current decision, I think I missed a few things - are you looking at repairing existing or the remanufactured motor?

dealer is not interested. My forms are at the ombudsman but office only opens 15 jan.

I have decided to get a remtech engine (reconditioned but basically new) from PE.

    R60k.

I have about R20k so far but trying to get R60k + R10k labour through ombudsman.

well, he's a bit of a knob then for not coming to an arrangement.

the CPA is pretty clear about that. are you approaching the Motor Industry ombudsman or the consumer council lot?

really rough, I feel for you.

As before,I feel you may have a crack with the CPA,was this dealer a sole prop? If so the CPA does not apply,if he is a registered company you may have a claim. IMO its worth a shot

If he's a dealer/trader (sells vehicles for a living), you have a claim. The ownership of the business is irrelevant.
