VW use 10mm bolts with 18 hex head usually. Many years ago they used the same size bolts with 19 hex head.

Aaahhhh. Some new pics. Started building and breaking lego to get some dismantling action... ;-)

Looks nice. Ring gear and flywheel looks clean. so no leaking oils seals there as well. Will you change that also now the engine is comming out?

Wag... moet nou die vleis draai voor dit brand.

    Enjoy!

    So begin dit...

By the look of things the alternator also sits at the back. Sjoe some Volla engineer never worked on engines him self

With the intake removed access is reasonably easy.

    Marius,
All the manufactures do it. It becomes harder and harder these days to work on a car. At the end it is still the costumer paying up. Simple jobs involve hours of stripping before it can be done. Keep up the good work.

This is a bit OT, but yes they make it difficult to service the car.

My son is at Toyota and they had to do valve springs on some of the Lexus, under warranty. You need to drop the whole front subframe. Front suspension, engine, gearbox, the lot.

bellhousing bolts (you now know what's to follow right....... )

jip. Engine is out (Finger up to all the naysayers and VW who said it couldn't be done - that it had to be done from the bottom is utter bollocks! )

    rear of engine view

starter location with access cutaway fro flexplate bolts

    front of engine

alternator side with A/C pump removed

    tandem pump

    engine bay

A/C pump on the side with radiator still in place. No damage to the radiator (and i used a bolt on the front of the engine for the chain hoist that was 2 inches too long.

    The view

Now the next step is to fabricate some timing locking tools, and pull the head.

You must walk like John Wayne, considering how big your balls are to try this yourself.

As before I believe that Marius will be rewarded for his effort and the problem will be head or ring related ,I believe the block will be OK and the problem repairable with no need to visit the bank manager....let's keep our fingers crossed.
    Well done so far

Bastard. Sad to see that Treg like that, very poor condition. Wonder how much it went for?
