Dis volgende op my lys, ek het ook 'n knock wat nuwe bushes nie uitgesort het nie. O ja, en nuwe gas struts vir die agter deur en glas, en struts vir die bonnet..

Changed my two lower control arms up front.

2 hours without a lift or power tools. Just two bottle jacks, two jack stands and some basic hand tools.

Final rebound knock is gone. I suspected balljoints. You can't feel play on the BJ on the old arms but the car is transformed with the new arms. It's like driving on butter.

Definitely worth it. If you have an older suspension, don't bother with bushes. Just get the whole arm. It makes a HUUUUGE difference!

    Hi Ralph

I have the same on my Treg - just be aware that the space saver spare wheel is of no use with the bigger tyres as the electronics doesn't like the difference between the oversized tyres and the smaller spare.

That is why Marius has a spare strapped on the roof!!

Camping keeps me sane. Depression comes from not camping enough.

And yes I'm towing with EGR blanked, gutted CAT and a dose of 2so while I'm bellowing extra emissions for the trees. Fight away, I'm going camping.
    Hi Marius

Where is the CAT and how did you gut it? Why did you gut it in the first place and was there any difference that will make you recommend it to a fellow TRegger?

Two cats. One on the downpipe and one further down.

Easy to gut with a sharpened piece of rod iron.

I gut it to aid flow. Turbo engines operate better with free flowing exhausts.

I cant comment on performance difference as I did it with the engine swap.

I gutted the cat yesterday afternoon with a piece of square bar. Loosened the clamp at the turbo, then the nuts on the bracket above the engine mounting. Then loosened the bottom exhaust bracket and pipe joint clamp. Maneuver exhaust downpipe down to gain access to 3 nuts on flange to split down pipe. Removed cat material and installed exhaust again.

Difference is very noticeable! Feels like a 500kg diet was done.

My CAT was clean. How was yours? Blocked? Clean?

Pitch black with soot and a few holes blocked but not much. I would say it was clean.

Pitch black with soot means the holes were slightly restricted.

This is what mine looked like. (about 6000km on 2so and a broken cylinder) - vehicle mileage was 245'000km at the time iirc.

I hear the turbo whistle a bit more now with the CAT out. As soon as funds allow I'm putting one or two freeflow silencers in to quieten it down again. I like a quiet car. Just the mud tyre whistle I can't do anything about.

This was over the weekend just driving home.

No idea. It could be if used regularly over long distances and working hard so it burns clean.

To me a CAT and DPF is like the EGR system. In the long run it's best to remove them. Bunny huggers wants us to use a car for 100'000kmwhen these things work great and then they want us to recycle the whole car and buy a new one. What they don't realise is that most can't afford to do that. I'd rather have a R150k touareg and work on it and keep it 10 years+ than a R150k coke can with wheels that I have to trade in for a 1/3rd of the price I paid a few years down the line..

Not to mention the environmental impact of disposing of the old car and building the new one.
The ideal is obviously to keep the total impact as low as possible.

I do have bad news about the value of your car, though. R150k is very optimistic.

Had a opportunity to test the difference without the cat. There is an uphill from the mall underground parking when in 2nd gear at 1500rpm full accellerator where going up would have no power and loose RPM and would have to shift to 1st gear.

Today did the same test in same gear and rpm at approx 3/4 throttle and rpm stayed constant without dropping like before.
