Hopelik is die cayenne dan in my price bracket

Saturday's roughest obstacle. The dueller ATs on the Touareg are on their last legs and not giving a lot of grip. The others on mud tyres walked up there pretty easy.

It's also the first time I felt like I wanted a manual. The auto is too slow to respond when you want to "punch" forward. Not really what the touareg was made for but it came through unscathed.

I don't think there is any automatic car (regardless of engine) that has the instant punch that a manual offers.

I had more than enough power, it takes time to get the revs up close to the stall speed of the torque converter for the car to move forward. In practice it happens quickly but in an offroad situation you might be looking out the window and instantly you see you just need a bit of oomph to get over a rock.In a manual your second nature drops the clutch a bit and gives throttle and you are over. In an auto you give throttle but by the time the torque converter applies enough force to the wheels, you have slipped back already.

It's never been an issue but that rocky climb was extreme. The video doesn't do it justice. A touareg shouldn't actually go up there. But it can if needed.

Would be great to have both, clutch with torque converter that is lockable. Best of both worlds

The torque converter locks up in all gears parameters dependent.

I have been more offroad in my touareg than most and only once wanted a manual.

I like the car as is. It does what it was do signed to do perfectly. It really is a great allrounder.

Did I mention I averaged 14l/100km for the entire day?

Yes had the same consumption figure's a while back when offroading.

Manual sucks when going up a hill and revs drop to a point out of the powerband.

If I have never driven a V10, I would never have felt that I need/want more power.

    Blasphemy!

But apart from the gearbox, why else? Pretty panelling on the outside?

Yes. Lack of protection. If i had proper protection it would be much easier.

Camped in Hogsback over the weekend to help a photographer.

Averaged 12.5l/100km towing the caravan at 100km/h GPS.

Car is nearly at 305'000km and going strong.
