There are usually various derivatives that might just need some plumbing changed around. Or maybe a sump swopped around.

Or is the BAC the only motor that could be used?

Can't get a contact no for them

Also can't find City Used. They specialise in VW.
    Found, but no luck.

These guys seem to have VW Transporter, if it's a 2.5... that engine could work. Think the sump is different, but you cna use yours. The block must be the same surely.

    Main derivatives are

AXD - Normal turbo + starter on gearbox - Used in transporter 96kw
AXE - VGT Turbo + starter on gearbox - Used in transporter 128kw
BAC - VGT Turbo + starter on engine - Used in Touareg 128kw

Due to the block design for the starter only the BAC will work in the Touareg.

I think I'll spend a bit of money and ask the workshop where it's at to remove the cylinder head to see what's going on.

Tim Legge says he hasn't seen many failures but the last one with my symptoms was a broken ring. A new set of rings and a hone sorted it out.

Isn't it just an adapter plate that can be replaced or something simple like that?

No. It's the way the block is cast

head picture is off. 4 valves per cylinder and only 4 cylinders.

the r5 head is 2 valves per cylinder and 5 cylinders.

ad also states that it's expired.

Marius feel your pain, I went through a similar exercise with my Carravelle T5 about 3 years ago, hence my post, I have a cylinder head (AXE though) spare in the garage somewhere.

I sourced it through the forum and have not had opportunity to use it hence I can't guarantee it yet i was told it was skimmed and pressure tested.

If you can use it let me know and we can talk.
    What a life!

    phoned again this morning.

He says he was at auction yesterday and couldn't answer. mmmm

He says the engine is out and will send pics and it will be shipped down tomorrow morning.

So let's see, some things are fishy and some things check out.

I won't hand over a penny until I am standing next to the engine, so maybe this still comes through but I am skeptic at this moment.

Marius, I sincerely hope for your sake this works out.

In hindsight, though, buying a good condition, difficult to obtain 2nd hand motor for the price (R12k, IIRC) offered, seems to good to be true - especially if the cost of a new/rebuilt sub assembly is taken into account.

A local scrappy quoted me double that for relatively FUBAR looking 4.7 V8 Jeep engine and a NEW sub is under R50k.

I hope you get sorted soon - I went through all the thoughts about breaking up for spares, etc. that you are going through now and know exactly how frustrating it is.

If i consider the difficulty i have had and the scarcety of those engines it can make sense as he says the engine has been standing for 8 months and was originally marked at R30k but I suppose R12k in his pocket is better than a hopeful R30k on the floor.

Anyway, im trying to be positive so let's see what happens.
