PS : The new bolts and new bushes did the trick. Clunking sorted.

    great writeup. Thanx

I think it should have it's own thread with a proper title to search easily in future.

Did some gravel road yesterday. The spare wheel didn't budge and I was trying to make it budge!

I got the living fear in me reading about the air suspension relay failures so I went out and had a quick look.

2 torx screws to remove the black cover in the driver's footwell.

I didn't remove any other covers. Lying on my back I saw the grey relay block.

Pinched the sides and dropped the relay holder block out.

Then I opened the relay to look if it's burnt. Looks brand new to me.

    Good news!

Very likely already been replaced on yours. Unfortunately I do not know how to distinguish between the revised relay and the original.

I do still have my old one that I exchanged as a precaution, I'll have a look. Just need to find it.

Burned refers to the contacts. Not necesarily the coil. What are the condition of the contacts? A temp fix will be some sanding paper to remove the carbon burning. The hot contact metal is more likely the problem and than helps to weld the contacts to each other. That is why the compressor will keep running even if thec car is turned off.

    So begin dit...

    Hi everybody.

I am a noob when it comes to forums and forum etiquette as well as when it comes to Tregs.

I have just bought a 2004 R5 (Air suspension) with 234000km on the clock. (which I have yet to fetch)

I would like to do preventative maintenance like prop shaft bearing, bushes, bearings and any other bits that can go wrong. There is no service history to this vehicle and I picked it by default.

Not that I am complaining as with some investment it will be an awesome vehicle (as Marius thread testifies to amply). I wont be doing the work myself as I am too tied up with work and don't have space to work, but will look for a good mech in JHB to do the PM so I can start travelling to Moz and other lekker places.

Please could you direct me to a suitable thread or give me a list of things to do to the Treg. It has air suspension as well.

thanks and apologies if I have posted in the wrong place.

Many thanks and thanks for an enthralling thread.

Start on page 1 of this thread and read through everything. Just about everything on the R5 is covered here and then also on the treg owners thread.

Thanks. Is there a specific list somewhere of things that are recommended to do?

I have read through nearly all of your thread. I learned a lot already.

Realistically though, there is sooooo much information to go through to find what you are looking for, there is just too little time. I need to learn how to search.

One thing I looked for but didn't find was whether chip tuning is advisable or detrimental. probably just don't know how to search.

    cheers

If you want to look after these cars you need to put in the leg work and get to know them.

Spend a month or two reading as much as you can.

On both these threads, I have not read about ONE Treg that has been "chipped"; they simply don't need it.

No, they don't need it, but I would love to push my V10 to 850NM!

We had Chip Logic do our 2005 V10 some years go. Initially it had over 1000Nm and was such fun accelerating up steep hills towing a heavily lade trailer. Later turned it down to around 900Nm and still a gas to drive. Have not had it back on a dyno for a long time (Chip Logic no longer doing tuning as far as I know) but I think it's lost a bit of grunt even though Tim Legge differs on this....
Rob Green does chip tuning on the V6 diesel that gives around 70-75 additional Nm as do Race Chip.
I want to chip Swambo's 2011 V6 but have been told for years to leave her car alone..??!!

No matter how much power you have, you will always want more. I would rather spend that money on a weekend away.

This could have ended very badly!

If those lunatics didn't die (if they mad an accident), and I survived, I would have carried out their death wish!
