    Battery is completely finished now.

Tried to start the car. The lights didn't even come on.

Check voltage with a multimeter - 10.4 volts

Date stamp on the battery : 08/08 - SAo it's not the original as I thought but not bad for nearly 7 years.

I suspect I killed it when I installed the dual battery and left the bonnet open that left the lights on and drained the battery.

And for those that are wondering. It started it's nonsense with the dual battery fuse not connected yet so it can't be my installation.

Dual battery is fully charged at this point in time.

I decided to bite the bullet. That battery gave such good service so I ordered a new one from the dealer. It will be here tomorrow.

The part number has changed from 000 915 105 AH to 000 915 105 DK

I wonder what the revision was?

R1789.80... ouch! Let's hope this one also gives at least 7 years of service.

    New battery in. All good.

If this one lasts as long as the previous one, I will only need a new battery by 2022.

That's not bad at all. Paid R1400 for the wife's Volvo D5 earlier this winter. Previous one also lasted 6 years.

Volvo wanted something like R2500 for an original one.

I think its a non profit item

I suspect the profit lies in the fitment. VW charges close to R800 / hour and they will probably charge a full hour because the battery sits under the fro t left seat.

Car was standing for a couple of days (after which it wouldn't start with the old battery) but started with new battery.

So even though I was confident it had nothing to do with my dual battery setup, I'm relieved to confirm this.

She turns over nice and quick now. The cold start idle is also better. I suspect the new battery glows the plugs a bit better.
