sometimes 4x4 helps you get better parking spots.

Dash cam date was wrong. This was at the East London show last weekend. 4x2 Isuzu stuck on some wet grass and a datsun struggling to pull it out.

We eventually pushed it out as well as a Terios that also couldn't get through.

dodging dogs, goats, cattle, pedestrians, taxis, roadblocks and construction detours on the way to Umngazi and back, just outside Port St Johns for my sister's wedding.

All good. No hassles. Just happy RELIABLE, comfortable and economical cruising.

    9.6l/100km there and 9.0l/100km back.

you took on this project and once the engine was done, you knew there would be niggles.unfortunately some niggles pop up in a bad spot.( the guy stuck in the desert somewhere with his disco that popped an airline).
what you have is a lot of wear and tear. this is not a problem. the engine had a problem which you fixed.
you even showed us some oke that 774,000 kms on his R5 in germany. do you not think he had his fair share of cush drives packing up on the alternator etc.
when people ask me how do i know what i am getting when they buy a car, i reply buy a car thats been in an accident then fix it up and then you know what you have.
You marius are in that boat. you know what you have. keep the car and soon, all the small stuff will be sorted.

Was looking for info and came across this post earlier in the thread. Man, I'm glad I stuck with it.

So far the engine has gone 15 months without a single miss. An A/c or alternator coupling here and there along with small stuff, but engine wise it's purring like a kitten.

What a car! Loving it more and more every long drive as I regain confidence in the beetle.

I was very happy with the handling as well through the transkei. Some sheep owe their lives to the brakes and suspension of the beetle

Time for new tyres. ...... Well new ones are bit pricey so i opted for a second hand set, and slightly larger profile.

Saw your pic of the air intake, nice gap. I had the same problem with my D4, dealer fitted genuine raised intake, at the body a 2 cm gap. If I had not done the sheet of paper test I could easily have drowned the car. As it was it was sucking air from the front wheel well. an indie showed me how to silicone and seal it. Wonder how many Landrovers are driving around with a decoration and not a functioning snorkel. Very few even know how to test it. Works well now grunts and snorts next to me

Cool, same size I'd like to get. What does TuffStuff say about non specification tyre sizes? Did you ask?
