Haha, good stuff. I saw that in a tata telcoline bakkie a good few years ago as well, i told the owner it probably doesn't bode well for him if they thought to add that for the engine...

On a serious note, very good planning from the VW engineers!

Those gas struts are incredibly useful as well. No fiddling with a steel prop or lifting a heavy lid.

That lid is aluminium. I can lift it with my pinky. I know because I have had it off before.

Mine's struts are still fine, so I actually have no idea what it weighs!

My struts are buggered, - looking for new ones.

My facelift model does not have a light in the bonnet. Assume they did this as they thought all issues were resolved with the facelift .

Also non facelift has beacon lights on the door insides. Facelift only has reflectors. Cost saving, clearly!

    * consumption needs to be seen in the context that the vehicle is towing an Imagine Trailvan 50% of the time.

I went camping over the weekend which gave me the oppurtunity to tow a caravan (Caravette 5) for the first time.

I know understand why some claim stupid speeds at towing.

I can feel the caravan while climbing hills but the power was more than adequate to keep my speed.

However, the impressive factor was towing in a crosswind and letting go of the steering wheel will see the car run straight and true. It never felt like I had a caravan hooked up in terms of driving dynamics.

This is an absolute dream of a tow car. No wonder it is rated to tow 3500kg.

I recall the towing dad did as a child (kombi, maxima, gen1 pajero) and that was rather hairy and slow. It can not be compared to a touareg.

What an awesome tow vehicle. Really outstanding! I like this car all over again!
