If you kept up with me and returned that economy I would eat my hat. I can easily get close to 9 or below on my own foot if I drive economical. I drove hard!

The touareg weighs 2300kg though. What does the fortuner weigh?

I don't know what it weighs but I've heard they are quite top-heavy

I think it's around 1800kg, leŽ blikke maak die meeste geraas, ensovoorts.

Well, I suppose half a ton will make a difference and the D4D engine is a good one.

    Would be interesting though.

I will drive back to EL on economy foot and see what I can manage.

Drove up to Hoedspruit yesterday. Cruise control most of the time on 136 km/h. 9.9 l / 100 km. V6 TDI loves the open road. Have a roof rack on also.

Jip. Go up to 140 and the v10 is more economical than the R5 as well.

The R5 performs best at about 105-110km/h.

    Benoni to Lynnwood economy.

Note the fuel gauge and the trip meter for the current tank.

Pretoria East to East London. I filled up at Kroonvaal plaza stop. Check the trip meter. Not bad for a 3/4 tank.

My aircon blower motor was giving intermittent shutdown.

Did a vcds scan and the motor is seeing a funny out of range thingamabob.

Some googling revealed the evap temp sensor could be to blame.

Reading the sensor values via computer rules it out.

Luckily the blower motor comes out easily. Just the pull down kick panel, the footwell light connector, motor connector and 7 easily reachable 5.5mm screws.

    Takes 5 minutes.

Inspection reveals brushes at the end of their life.

I spaced the brushes to give a bit of extra life until I can find a replacement.

I had the same happen a while back, a clean and some lube and the blower is still working, I can see that a replacement will be on the cards sometime

I suppose 280'000km is not bad for a brush motor.

I wonder what they cost as it is a very simple motor.

I suppose I will have to look abroad again as the dealers think parts are made of platinum.

Why not just replace the brushes ?
