    Default Next Generation Hilux

    Hi Guys

Anyone have news, pictures or dates of the next generation Hilux. Any ideas on motors and gearboxes?

From my understanding the Tundra is only made in Left hand drive, is this true or do they make them in right hand drive as well? What's the chances of it coming to SA in V8 diesel

Speaking of V8 diesel, what's the latest on the Cuiser pick up V8 Diesel?

Nothing new for Hilux until 2015.

The new S line just came out in the Hilux. Electric folding mirrors, self levelling headlights. Changes so small, Toyota did not even promote it as a change.

I also heard via the grapevine that there will not be a new model until 2016.

Other than the grapevine, haven't heard anything solid either, so we're probably at least 2 years away from a new version.

AFAIK the Tundra is LHD only. Can't see them bringing it to SA, as it is more leisure orientated (read softer) than what we need here.

I think even Toyota themselves don't know what is happening with the V8 d4d bakkie! It may turn out to be a repeat of the 200 GX story. Watch me eat my words....

Toyota keep these things so secret, just planning for the future I like to replace my Hilux's every 50000km or 3 years, it's currently a year old with 20000km.

I'm really hoping the next one will have all the bells and whistles to compete with these other brands, sorry been a Toyota fan since my dad bought the 1st 2.4D back when I was like 5. I answered a emailed questionnaire after I bought my last Hilux and the one question was if I would prefer a 2.8' 3.0 or 3.2 litre. So lets hope they come out with a 3.2L, 5 or 6 speed auto, in 6 cylinder form Diesel.

What's the story of the 200 GX?

I personally think Toyota is in a spot of bother. If they do go bigger on the hilux / fortuner? What are they going to do about the recently released Prado? The motor needs to be decent to compete with the competition. Yet they don't want to kill the prado market with their own vehicles.

There is an article on the forum, but I'll summarize.

Toyota were on the brink of launching the Landcruiser 200 GX here and even got as far as having them waiting inside Durban port for delivery to dealerships when the whole thing got cancelled due to the tow rating on the vehicle. I remember one guy had even sold his VX in anticipation of this.

In the end, I think they all got shipped off to Botswana.

In 1999 I enquired about the rumour of a new vehicle, but the dealers knew nothing. I had my Condor already ordered when the dealers still could not give me any information. Even after I gave them the key specifications, they still did not reveal any knowledge about the vehicle. Maybe they would be good at Poker as well.

Chatting to the Parts Manager at the local dealership, he mentioned that there will only be a new model arriving during 2015.

My info from head office is 2016 and smaller but stronger engines to keep emissions down. He mentioned in the 2.8 region. But I don't even think they realy know what will happen.

Sitting on my hands for this , but there will be quite few changes.
Basic design (Size, engines, T/M ,etc are already decided)

I just returned fro a business trip to Thailand & must say the new Isuzu looks mighty impressive.

Also interesting was top of the range Hilux/Vigo 3.0 D4D Double Cab with 5 A/T 4x4 sells for 992,000 Thai Baht , which is about R289,000. I'm not sure about the taxes , but it's a higher spec & cheaper than SA hilux (RRSP = R444,300)

    cheers

We supply the manufacturers. They start gearing up during next year so as to be able to run preproduction middle of 2014. I expect you'll see the car 2015. Apparently Toyota have the longest preproduction cycle.

Why? That cheap tupper and tinware which just clips together should take only a few seconds to assemble.

Can't help with Cruiser it's not made here.

They take the time to make sure that all that tupperware and tinware clips together perfectly without modifications.

In the early days of the T6 the chassis were delivered with incorrectly placed cross members. They fixed these in the parking lot post production. Toyota generally has these bugs ironed out before production starts.

Basic rule in any case is never buy a car within 6 months of its model or facelift launch. That way you have better chance of dodging the bugs.

From what I heard the design is finalised and some small scale planning is under way. It will be 2015 since they are busy developing the local version of the next generation corolla at the plant with a few built up units from Japan parked at the plant somewhere.
