    A 2x4 is a plank of wood.

4x2 is like a 4x4 without low range and that is missing a diff.

This is not the 4x2 forum. If you go offroad you need a 4x4 and pretty soon that will be legislated and you'll need a licence.

4x2s are fine for good dirt roads and tar...

Golfstok, no need for apologies. These forum guys will pull you apart when you use the words 4x2 or 2x4, but please, it's all tongue-in-cheek (spelling). Just laugh it off and get yourself a propper 4x4!!!!

All this would depend on the amount of school fees you would like to pay.
If you can afford it, go the 4X4 route directly, as you will end up there sooner or later.
Now you need to ask "Which one ?"

    Step 1) Find yourself a buddy with a 4x4
Step 2) Convince him to take you out on an outing
Step 3) Let him try some things in 4x2 and then switch to 4x4 so you can see the difference
Step 4) Go out and get a 4x4

Well you CAN get a 4x2 to start off, then after a few month you realise the truth, sell it, loose a bit of money and buy a 4x4, OR you can just do it right from the go and get a 4x4.

For 99 out of 100 km, you will not need 4x4. That 1 km that you do need it is the best km...

Golfstok. The big question is : What do you want to do with your vehicle?

You can do a lot of over landing with a "4x2" bakkie, as long as you plan your trip properly, but then you might miss out on some of those things that really makes it special.

Secondly the big thing is that one then tend to venture into areas where you actually need a 4x4 and start to damage the environment as you get a lot of wheel spin.

So my suggestion is. Get yourself rather a year or two older model, but a proper 4x4, and you can do whatever you want to!

Hi, in the same boat, would love a 4x4 but then Swambo asks how often will we use it. For me a no brainer but finances also play a role. If you can get the 4x4 and have no regrets later. Enjoy.
