Unhappy WegSleep test on Bush Lapa Miskruier ?

As one of the many very happy owners of a Bush Lapa Miskruier, I was wondering when WegSleep will be testing this off-road caravan. I asked Jannie from Bush Lapa this question this past weekend at the Getaway show. He mentioned that WegSleep took one of his earlier models, a model before mine, for a test during last year.

I have been giving this some thought and I’m not sure how Jannie from Bush Lapa feels about this but I will be quite miffed if WegSleep only publishes a test on the old model and not take into account all the changes and various new options that has since become available in the Bush Lapa range. The reality is that thousands of camping enthusiasts have seen the Bush Lapa range at 3 huge shows in recent months, the Kyknet Outdoor Expo up north, the Kambati Outdoor Expo at Swellendam and the Getaway show at Lourensford. It would reflect badly on WegSleep if they do not at least look into all the improvements / new options and publish something more current. To test a unit in its “birth” phase and then hold onto it for a few months does not sound fair . My Miskruier was no. 8 off the production line and has many improvements. The model they tested was practically a prototype…. I hope to see an article that does justice to my Miskruier .

Check HERE for more info an pictures of the Bush Lapa range. At a glance, the basic structure look the same. The difference comes with the improvements and new options that are now available.

Off the top of my head the new options are:

    · 100 L stainless steel water tank fitted under the trailer
    · 12 V water pump and tap at the back close to the kitchen area
    · 105 L stainless steel tank under the bed giving total of 205 L of water onboard
    · Crockery fitted in a mould in kitchen area
    · Canvas door with mosquito net to cover the back door
    · Washing basin that can be attached to the kitchen area
    · Ostrich wing type roof that literally takes second to fold open – side panels available to make it fully enclosed
    · Cutlery bag to hang in kitchen area
    · Camping table in a canvas bag that straps in on the inside – out of the way
    · Additional 220V plugs in the kitchen area

    The improvements are:

    · Mosquito nets by the 2 beds and the roof that can zip open completely for better ventilation
    · Canvas covers over the small gap underneath the 2 double beds to stop mosquito from coming in (Edit - I note the unit WegSleep tested did not have this - it is now standard)
    · Larger nose cone to protect the paintwork on the van against stone damage
    · New MK1 power panel
    · All electrical wiring upgraded
    · Improved tent design

I might have missed a few

Sure I agree, they must have shelved that test/article, I do not think any publication that is worth its salt will publish 'old' news. Does not make sense. Have you approached Wegsleep ? I am sure they will appreciate the heads-up on this matter

You might have a point - maybe I should refer this to Zigi from WegSleep.

Wow.....I'm very impressed with Zigi Erkon (Editor) and Charles Thompson (Journalist) from WegSleep!

Within 15min they both replied to my email. Good news is that they are aware of the improvements and changes and Jannie passed on some pictures of these, to them. The Miskruier will be featured in the May issue of WegSleep.

Okay, so you all know I am not Jannie.

I don't make a point of keeping abreast with what other manufacturers do, but Bushlapa were next to me at the Getaway show, and I was indeed surprised at Jannie's growth since seeing him the first time last year at Kambati. And no wonder, these are well thought out, neatly finished products.

Kooskop, you give the magazines too much credit for what they are worth. (I guess I'm not going to get any good reviews now). But I place far more value on what everyday campers have to say about product on this forum. I have yet to be reviewed by any of them.

I know you cannot be Jannie because I saw you both on Saturday at the Getaway show . As mentioned in another thread, I tried to say hi and introduce myself…..twice….but as expected, both you and Jannie were overwhelmed by outdoor enthusiasts who knows a good product when they see it.

Well….those of us that have a Bush Lapa product as well as those who saw the range at the 3 major shows, will know if the article is a true reflection of the product. The Miskruier was also tested by Caravan SA (PDF copy of the review on the Bush Lapa website). I agree, the forum is the way to go and must not be underestimated. I can however imagine that for someone like you trying to run a business (not to mention MikeAG’s rooftop tent launch) it must be quite a challenge to scan the form and respond to all queries. I take my hat off to you....

Let us be honest, the perfect setup would be:

Bakkie with RTT > Bushlapa Miskruier > Metallian with RTT

Your little Mansion in the bush! Just to bad we dont all have that cash flying around!

Beautiful pictures!! I take it Jannie's nice spare wheel covers was to small for those HUGE wheels you have on your Miskruier . See....told you that you would not need a drop plate - looks perfect behind the FJ .
