If I don't post on Monday it means that I didn't go driving around. As for price, I got it from Dion Wired in Tokai here in the fairest Cape. Price was R1700-00. There was one other model at R1600-00. The difference between the two was that the one I bought has maps of SA, Nam, Bots, Zambia and Mocambique while the cheaper one had maps of SA only. I decided that for R100-00 it was worth having the extra maps.
Have a lekker weekend you okies.

We brought or TomTom from Germany and I bought the SA map online, it was a major issue to install it. Never again.

While driving it showed that the maps are not as good as the Garmin maps.
I only kept it as we fly to Germany every few years.

    Kingsley,

The Tracks4Africa SD card is Garmin compatible only and won't work on your TomTom. Best is to buy a cheap Nuvi (e.g. Nuvi 40 - usually less than R1000).

We have also recently released T4A iGO compatible software for certain CASKA in-car units.

    Kind regards,

    Anja

OK, didn't go driving around this weekend after all. Also, got a reply from the T4A folks, (see above) so it looks like Tom Tom is not a good idea after all. For off the beaten track use, that is. Pity, but there we are.

The good thing with the T4A maps is, they are driven by us users,
means they are the most up to date, which is important specially in remote
    areas, in National Parks, etc.

You can also download the maps you need on T4A.

Having the maps also on your computer helps a lot for preparing a trip.

How do I transfer a route(s) that was created in a .gdb to another existing .gdb file without using the GPS device?

Sorry, never mind. Copy and paste worked

Open Mapsource, copy (probably rename it before, if it has the same name)
and past it into the other file, you can open Mapsource twice parallel.

    Hi Ouoomeenoog,

Have you tried to install Garmin's USB Driver's, this will help you PC to reconize the GPS unit.

Be happy youve got a Garmin.
Once you try to donwload maps to a TOMTOM,
you need to be a computer specialist.

You need to deinstall things even in your registry....

It seems that I need a course in Basecamp as I hold the same sentiment as ouoomeenoog. I find the "program" extremely difficult to figure out, not even my supersmartteenwithcomputerstudies get it right.
I got the latest version of Tracks4Africa and need to plot a route through Lesotho and string it together so that I can get useful information from it.
Can someone please assist as I'm reverting back to paper (old army saying - GPS with hole is of no use, map with hole in it is exactly that!)
    Will appreciate.

It is an easy program to use with a bit of practice. I found the help screens (press F1) excellent. There is also video help. A sample screen from the help section below:
